Brody The Amazing Dog Playing at Crystal Springs within Griffith Park
I took Mr. B to Griffith Park after the rains to enjoy the tranquility and get in a little exercise. ― #dog, #park, #health, #ER1KN3LSON, #nature, #losfeliz, #losangeles, #la, #crystalsprings, #zoo, #animals at Crystal Springs Griffith Park
"All these hundreds of thousands of kids going to these festivals in Vegas and New York— wearing furry boots, living the rave dream— are binge-drinking music. They’re taking it all in. They don’t care about quality— it’s about the epic build and formulaic comedown. But five years from now, they’re going to stop that, and there’s a good chance that 20% of those people will stick around and start finding avenues towards Aphex Twin and Kraftwerk and Basic Channel. That’s fantastic. That’s going to be an influx of people that are going to make this music last longer and be relevant. That’s all I care about."

**The only thing that America is #1 in is the number of incarcerated people per capita. The percentage of the population that believe in Angels. And in defense spending, which amounts to more than the next 26 following countries COMBINED…and they’re all Allies.**
**The first step to fixing problems is to realize that there is one. America is not the best country in the world.**
“I was listening to NPR earlier today and they had a conservative and a liberal on the air discussing the Obama Administration’s public scrutiny over Romney’s work history while at (or not, which is at the center of the debate) Bain Capital and his roles, responsibilities, and compensation during these years in question. It was really begin to frustrate me that both sides of the debate held, with unrelenting determination, cemented onto their talking points that they were not even having an actual debate, but rather repeating Party Platform approved sound-bites. I mean seriously, they could have just as easily turned in recorded cassettes of each’s position (which could not have been more polar opposite mind you) and had the host simply take turns pressing play from each side and then repeating the process a few times. The discussion made me not only angry, but completely disillusioned with the state of American politics and the capabilities, or better yet, the competence of our voted leaders. The current system in which we have
-a media dominated by extremism and its never ending thirst for advertising dollars held hostage by a half-century old rating system
-a broken education system that continues to fail our best and worst frightfully equally while teachers continue to have increased class sizes in stride with slashed earnings, benefits, and job security
-a widening financial gap between the richest and the poorest of our country compounded by the fact that the real wage value per hour has not actually gone up since 1968
-that after a DECADE OF WAR so many individuals are left dead or damaged with no clarity into determining if we are actually any safer, or if the financial, physical, and psychic toll onto our society and onto our enemies’ was actually worth it,
-and even worse yet our damaged individuals are committing suicide at a rate of ONE A DAY (highlighted in this week’s Time Magazine) with no end in sight, no answers available, and no budget or resources allocated in the amount needed to even begin to comprehend all of the SHIT we, The United States of America, have stepped in
-a population where half of the individuals refute scientific data, a blinded refusal to join what for fuck sake is absolute fact, on concepts such as evolution, global warming, and reproduction, that it is completely mind-numbing and counter productive as an intelligent species to allow such primates to vote
-and ultimately, a constant admiration and adherence to either the past or the future, but never a sustained and concerted effort upon the present.
Come on people. Right here. Right now. Why are so many people afraid of reality? How as a society have we gone so far away from what is really happening right now? How do we fix it? Well after reading this and after watching this video we can start by joining reality and putting a priority on the present. We need to realize that the issues above aren’t political issues, they’re human issues, and unfortunately to avoid compromise on the grounds of ego or god is just plain stupid. Let’s start addressing our neighbors not as statistics but as the human beings that they are. That as humans we all have a common experience. No one is better than the other. And please if but one thing at all (which I believe well lend to working everything else out) THINK FOR YOURSELF. Ignorance isn’t bliss people and no longer can we tolerate the shackles intellectual opportunity, education, and enlightenment. No longer can we lie to ourselves or others with things that simply aren’t true. Our ability to think is the only thing that can save us and if our brothers and sisters continue to intellectually atrophy all will be lost.”
So sick my friends. #Free #download @KCRW #DJ @thisisdanwilcox #remix of T.Rex’s “Solid Gold Easy Action”: http://bit.ly/kcrw-t-rex-rockonm3dia
Glam rockers T. Rex influenced many of the bands that have passed through the studios of KCRW – from Beck to MGMT – and now four of our DJs have remixed four tracks from the band for the T. Rex vs. KCRW Soundclash Remix EP.
All of the songs getting the remix treatment were Top 20 charting singles that came out in the wake of T. Rex’s seminal album The Slider. The EP closes with a cover of “Main Man” from The Slider recorded live in KCRW’s studios by Portugal. The Man.

The earliest silent films recognized the inherent doubling that occurs through picture, investigating notions of an uncanny second self in films such as the The Golem and The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. Through doubling or mirroring, one is confronted with the illusion of wholeness, a dispersion of the self, and perhaps revelations or repressions of fears and desires kept hidden within the body. The Double can also represent an alter ego, a copy or forgery, or a false twin or Doppelganger. However, doubles are not exclusively physical in a bodily sense. Doubling may also be traced to the mode of production of the work, reminding us that the replication and dissemination of image is physical in its duplication as well. This lack of the original and multiplication of the double across the screen is exemplified in the bicoastal screening of The Double at LAXART in Los Angeles and Cabinet in New York.

Featuring works by:

Mike Calway-Fagen ’11
Jonathan Ehrenberg ’11
Amy Finkbeiner ’01
Victoria Fu ’06
Meredith James ’11
Andrew Ellis Johnson ’99
Siobhan Landry ’11
Sarah Lasley ’04
Dan Levenson ’09
Ann Oren ’09
Chris Sollars ’98
Cheryl Yun ’03
Bryan Zanisnik ’08

Metropolis IIis an intense and a complex kinetic sculpture, modeled after a fast paced, frenetic modern city. Steel beams form an eclectic grid interwoven with an elaborate system of 18 roadways, including one 6 lane freeway, and HO scale train tracks. Miniature cars speed through the city at 240 scale miles per hour; every hour, approximately 100,000 cars circulate through the dense network of buildings. According to Burden, “The noise, the continuous flow of the trains, and the speeding toy cars, produces in the viewer the stress of living in a dynamic, active and bustling 21st Century city.”
To see Metropolis II in action, please visit the gallery at these times: Fridays: 12:30–2 pm; 3–4:30 pm; 5–6:30 pm; 7–8:30 pm Weekends: 11:30–1:00 pm; 2–3:30 pm; 4–5:30 pm; 6–7:30 pm
